Pfizer is recalling several medicines for the heart, blood pressure and blood sugar component, Cialis. The recall is based on information from Pfizer's website.
The recalled products include Pfizer medicines for heart disease, and Cialis, which is a prescription drug for erectile dysfunction.
Pfizer, the company that manufactures Cialis, said it was notified by FDA about the recall. The recall, if any, would be for the following medicines: Cialis, Vardenafil, Levitra, Sildenafil, Vardenafil hydrochloride, and Vardenafil citrate. The information was not disclosed.
Cialis is the generic version of Viagra and is sold by Lilly in various dosage forms. Cialis is the preferred option for treating erectile dysfunction in men. Levitra is the preferred option for men who have difficulty getting or maintaining an erection and for men with diabetes. Levitra and Cialis are available in various strengths and are not recommended for women.
Pfizer said the information was not available to consumers as of the date of this notification.
Pfizer said it has notified Cialis manufacturers to stop marketing the drug to the public. It has also informed Lilly about the recall.
Cialis is not included in the US Food and Drug Administration's list of medicines to treat erectile dysfunction. It is not available to purchase through pharmacies.
Pfizer said it is "reviewing" the recall and is "reviewing all of the products available to us and our partners."
